ARCHITECTURE
ROCHESTER GUILDHALL MUSEUM
An extension to an existing Grade 2 Museum, the proposal contains a function suite, meeting room, bar, café and workshop. The addition draws itself out from the existing elevation through the addition of four concrete masses. The design introduces the idea of human interaction being an exhibit as well and large expanses of structural glazing showcase human movement at the rear of the building. The concrete masses are clad in Corten Steel and juxtaposes the transparency of the circulation to the exhibition spaces.

Through the addition of one continuous ramp, the existing exhibits can be shown in one collective space and adds two flyover bridges linking the Dickens exhibits across Bull Lane. By splitting the Museum into two distinct circulation routes it allows the venue to host large functions whilst not detracting from the visitor experience to the exhibits.
